Helle Helsner

Danish born Helle Helsner’s work crosses many disciplines including sculpture and drawing.  With a foundation in ancient methods and materiality, her work is a continued exploration of intuitive material understanding as well as a deep connection to the landscape that surrounds her. This is addressed through her sculptural work, drawing and an understanding of the metal casting process. Casting her work by hand at her studio has allowed her to develop a language that has deep seeded roots with a contemporary feel. Sculpture or drawing, the depth of humanity lies at the core of her work.

Helle exhibits regularly in Ireland and Denmark while her bronze casting practice has resulted in collaborations with archaeologists, particularly in her native Denmark and a residency in ritual bronze casting in New Mexico. Exhibitions have included several solo show and selected group exhibitions in Dublin, Cork and Copenhagen as well as performance pieces revolving around gold casting. In 2015 she created a bespoke brooch, which was presented to Queen Margrethe II of Denmark and is now part of the state jewellery collection. A member of Visual Artist Ireland, the Design and Craft Council Ireland and the National Sculpture Factory, Ireland, she is also a fulltime lecturer at Crawford College of Art and Design, Cork. Helle Helsner lives and works in Co Cork, Ireland
